Coach Dye is beginning his 20th season as the Head Swimming and Diving Coach at Palo Alto High School in 2024. Coach Dye is originally from Burroughs High School in Ridgecrest, California. He swam for Bakersfield College for 2 years and also swam for Coe College for 2 years. At Coe College Coach Dye placed in the top 5 in 8 events in the schools all time history, while also breaking the school record in the 100 Freestyle.
Coach Dye graduated with a degree in Philosophy, he also has a Masters in Education. He works as a Youth Minister in a Lutheran Church as well as teaching 4th and 5th grade in the Cupertino Union School District.
As the Head Coach at Palo Alto Coach Dye has compiled a record of 259 - 25 - 1, for a .910 winning precentage. The boys are 131-9-1, while the girls are 128-15. Including 41 consecutive dual meet wins currently for the boys. The boys and the girls have broken all 12 of the school records. The Paly Swimming teams have won 29 out of 38 SCVAL titles. The girls have won 3 CCS titles, while the boys have won 2 and both teams have combined for 11 runner up finishes. Along with numerous League Champions, the boys and girls under Coach Dye, have had 62 CCS Champions (Boys 28, Girls 34), including 15 CCS records. With the introduction of the CIF State Swimming Meet, Palo Alto has had 11 State Champions in both individual and relay events. Including 7 state records. A runner up finish in 2017 for the girls, while the boys have finished 3rd three times, and ranked as the number 1 public school in the state in 2022 and 2023. During this time Palo Alto has achieved 173 All American times, along with 5 NISCA National Champions and one National Public School record.
The Boys have had 9 undefeated season, while the girls have had 11 undefeated seasons.
Coach Dye was the CCS Honors Coach in 2005 and 2016. He was the California Coaches Association Girls Swimming Coach of Year in 2017.
Laura enters her seventh season coaching with Palo Alto High School. Laura has more than a decade of experience coaching and teaching swimming at all levels. She excels in cultivating both high-performance and developmental components of the program. During her season with at PALY, the Vikings secured the Women's CCS Championship in 2016 in addition to multiple league titles.
Laura is also a Head Coach and Owner of Alto Swim Club. Under Laura's guidance, the age group and senior programs at Alto have improved tremendously and continue to advance in local and national recognition. Prior to coaching Alto Swim Club, Laura was a Head Coach and Owner of PASA - Cardinal site. During that time, the team was recognized as a USA Swimming Gold Medal Club and ranked as the top club team in Northern California. Laura was also the Aquatics Director and Head Coach of the SCRA Swim Team, a developmental 18 and Under program. SCRA maintained a three-year undefeated record, won 11 league Championships, and grew from 75 to 165 athletes.
In addition to on deck coaching, Laura is on the steering committee for the Women in Coaching Clinic and has been instrumental in furthering the conference mission to develop swimming as a sport and career path for women and girls. Laura is the Chair of Zone 1 North, voting club representative with Pacific Swimming House of Delegates, and a member of Pacific Swimming’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Laura has coached Pacific Swimming All-Star Teams and Select Camps. She is actively involved in swimming governance. Laura has been a speaker at numerous coaching conferences including the Pacific Swim Coaches Clinic. Laura graduated from UC Davis, where she studied Organizational Sociology and Women & Gender Studies. She is an American Swimming Coaches Association Lifetime Member.
This is Megan’s 2nd year coaching for Palo Alto High School. Megan started diving at the age of 8 and was on the Canadian National Junior and Senior diving teams for 15 years. Some career highlights include winning 22 National titles, being an alternate for the 1992 Olympic Team (10 meter), placing 2nd twice at the FISU World University Games, 4th at the Goodwill Games, and 5th at the Pan American Games.
Fun fact: she used her diving skills to perform in several tv commercials including “Got Milk”, Toyota, Arby’s, Cars.com, as well as The Greg Louganis movie.
Today she has her own practice as a Performance & Transition Coach for Athletes, is a mom to 2 student-athletes and continues to coach all levels of diving. When she’s not coaching athletes, she enjoys practicing yoga, playing pickleball, and hiking with her silver lab Piper.
Megan’s competitive spirit and love for sport inspire her to share her experience of performing at a high level with others while teaching them valuable life-long lessons such as hard work, goal setting, commitment, facing fears, overcoming obstacles, dealing with failure, and embracing a growth mindset.
